First, we took a couple side trips....

This is Cortlandt's Tavern, Which once housed travellers crossing the ferry here, and proceeding on the Albany Post Road.
Here we look down on the river, the man in the breeches is our Guide.
Friday Morning we drove up to Ossening and visited Cortlandt Manor, a pre revolutionary war estate. Our tour guide was dressed in period costume, and we learned alot about the area's history.

Then Saturday morning, we went to Sleepy Hollow Cemetary, where we were fortunate to meet one of the tour guides who was waiting for a late group to arrive. While he waited for his tour group, he gave us a brief tour around the church, showing us the graves of the real people that Washington Irving based his "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" characters on. We were instructed not to walk over the unmarked grave of the Hessian Soldier, better known as the Headless Horseman.
